According to the approved program, every subject taught in
classes is inevitable and can not be changed. (Students are not
allowed to choose the subjects by themselves). But schools have
a right to increase the number of classes during a week (but
there should be at most a 25 percent increase in number in one
week ). The school has used this right to increase the number of
foreign language classes.
There are also some optional subjects in the 10th, 11th,
and 12th grades, but it is optional for the schoolnot for stu-
dents. Therefore, the school administration has to decide what
optional subjects should be taught during an academic year.
The Georgian Education system consists of four levels.
Kindergarten (5-year children)
Elementary school (1st-6th grades)
Middle school (7th-9th grades)
High school( 10th-12th grades)
A Georgian citizen must finish at least middle school. High
school is optional, but 100 percent of all students from 2004
have completed high school.
The school process continues from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.,
including extra lessons and activities. There are eight lessons a
day, and the duration is 45 minutes. Generally, there are extra-
curricular activities, advanced studying programs, club meetings,
extra lessons, and tournaments after the lessons. The school has
some classes on Saturdays as well.
The school is 7/24 open for every teacher and student who
wishes to study or plan extra activities. The school is allowed to
accept a maximum of 400 students. Currently, there are 348
students, including Kindergarten. Studies are conducted in the
Georgian language during the mandatory school program. But
it may differ from the extra lessons.

Student self-government consists of the president, vice president, and representatives from each class. President
and representatives are elected for one year in October. This year, the sixth president was elected.
Students Self-Government regularly meets the school administration to manage activities, discuss problems, and
create new ideas. The school appreciates all kinds of work of Student Self-Government and motivates the students to be
a part of it.

Student Self-Government
The education year consists of two semesters (September-December, January-June). In every compulsory subject,
students are graded according to three types of evaluation: class participation, homework, and exams using a 10-
point system. Teachers may write marks in class participation and homework every day for every student (there is no
limitation). But The Ministry of Education determines the number of examinations. "The semester grade" of a subject is
calculated as the arithmetic average of all these three types of marks rounded to the nearest natural number. "End-of-
year grade" of a subject is calculated as the arithmetic average of both "semester grades" rounded to the nearest natu-
ral number.
"Physical Education," "Traffic Signs and Safe Driving"
and the optional subjects are not evaluated with marks. They are assessed as "Passed" or "Not Passed."
Students can move to the next class if their end-of-year grade in each subject is five or more. Otherwise, they must
pass a recovery exam at the beginning of September. If a student fails the exam, they will have to repeat the same
grade. The same rule works for 12th graders to officially graduate from school.

The grade point average (GPA) is calculated cumulatively as the unweighted arithmetic average of end-of-
year grades of the last three years (10th,11th, and 12th grades) rounded to the nearest hundredth digit. The Ministry of
Education yields gold medals to students whose GPAs are 10.00 and silver medals to students whose GPA is more than
9.80. If the universities ask, the 9th grade may also be considered in the calculation.
On the student transcripts, the GPA of the last three years is calculated cumulatively. But it is also possible to find
the average for each year separately on the transcript.
